A meeting of principals of government medical colleges convened by director of medical education (DME) has mooted public-private participation in organ harvesting from brain dead patients and for conducting organ transplantation surgeries. If there are no facilities and specialists for harvesting organs and conducting transplantation surgery for a particular organ in a government medical college, experts from private hospitals will do the job.

Government medical colleges will now focus more on organ harvesting from brain dead patients. There will be a committee in each medical college to monitor and review cadaver donations. Transplantation surgeries are done only at a couple of government medical colleges. In other medical colleges, experts from private hospitals will conduct harvesting. Doctors in government medical colleges will also be given training for the same.
