Dr Mandeep Mehra, US-based heart specialist and Dr Sapan Desai, a US-based vascular surgeon, are behind the infamy of having had two pieces of research withdrawn within an hour of each other.

• Both retracted studies were published in reputed peer-reviewed journals:
~ The Lancet: Raised alarms about the safety of the experimental Covid-19 treatments chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine
~ The New England Journal of Medicine: Focused on blood pressure medications in Covid-19

• More than a hundred scientists questioned the veracity of the HCQ study by raising questions about the data used.

• As the controversy peaked, the three other authors of the study asked Surgisphere (healthcare data analytics company) for a re-analysis, Mehra said in his statement.

• After being unable to verify the data, Mehra asked both journals to retract the studies.

• It led WHO to pause the HCQ arm of its giant Solidarity trial for Covid-19 (the decision has been reversed).

• Mehra offered an unqualified apology, “For that, and for all the disruptions – both directly and indirectly – I am truly sorry.”

This seems extremely unfair and racial to pin this on only Indian Doctors. Clearly the trial consisted of other Doctor of different nationalities, and the result of the trial was approved by International peers of different nationalities. Certainly we Indian Doctors must take firm action against such Racial discrimination and blame game against only Doctors of Indian origin.
