THANKS TO SERENDIPITY:COPPER METAL FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE AGAINST BOTULISM
Clostridium botulinum, one of the most potent toxin on earth yet with limited treatment options is like a nightmare to the mankind.
This bacteria causes neurointoxication I.e. affects the body's ability to signal to muscles and is referred to as botulism
Recently,a serendipitous discovery by scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) prove copper to be effective in fighting .
Compounds containing copper and other metal salts were tested in mice, which like humans are vulnerable to the toxin’s lethal effects. They penetrated to the site of the neurotoxin’s action, and extended the life of the mice that were given lethal doses of the microbe.
The metal ions hook up to a metal binding site on the botulinum protein, disrupting its action, the new study said.
The finding, based on the animal studies, was published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in the month of May,2017.
