A 32-year-old man, who claimed to have got a medical degree from Russia that's equivalent to MBBS, was detained in Coimbatore city for practising without passing a screening test conducted by the Indian Medical Council (IMC).
He had completed his medical degree in Russia and came to India in 2009. He appeared for the screening test conducted by the IMC, however didn't clear it. Hence he couldn't register his degree in India. Despite he wasn't eligible to practice medicine in the country, he ran the clinic for the last eight years. On further scrutiny, his Russian degree was confirmed and he was not arrested but discussion is being carried out with IMC officials for investigation
In the second incident, the health department officials raided a clinic near Pollachi and questioned Muthulakshmi, who ran the clinic. She told the officials that she studied Ayurvedic medicine, but was practising allopathic medicines. After the officials planned to produce her to the police, she managed to escape but the clinic was seized.
