The MIT lab has come up with a test that can differentiate between the four serotypes of Dengue and Zika and the study was published in Science Translational Medicine.

The tests that were performed on mice allowed the researchers to identify pairs of antibodies that reacted only with one version of NS1. The team confirmed its result by traveling to Mexico, Colombia, India, and Brazil to use the method on samples collected from human patients.

With the success of this study, it’s now possible to test for Zika, as well as all four strains of Dengue, with separate strips of paper. The researchers are now aiming to create a create a version that would test for all five at once. The team is also working on a diagnostic for the tick-borne Powassan virus, which is mainly found in the northeastern United States and the Great Lakes region and causes a severe form of encephalitis...
