Answer: a. Microscopic examination with MAF staining is the least sensitive method for detection of Cryptosporidium. Direct immunofluorescence, antigen detection, and real-time PCR are the most sensitive tests and have been shown to display comparable sensitivities in several reports. However, in our and other investigators' experience, PCR displays the greatest sensitivity. In addition to excellent sensitivity and specificity, PCR can be multiplexed to screen for several common protozoa and reduce the overall time to detection for multiple targets.... Read more
