Aortic Valve Repair – the evolving frontiers of aortic annul
The techniques in aortic valve repair have matured for the management of aortic insufficiency with or without associated aortic pathology to offer patients freedom from the complications of prosthetic valves including thromboembolism, endocarditis, anticoagulant-related hemorrhage, and reoperation due to structural valve deterioration. This steady evolution has been enhanced by advances including a repair-oriented classification system, annular stabilization, standardization of leaflet repair techniques, and systematic assessment with echocardiography. The options for aortic annuloplasty have received considerable attention recently due to its importance for durability of aortic valve repair. These annuloplasty options include a variety of suture techniques as well as internal and external rings.
