Epiretinal membrane formation following vitrectomy for Rhegm
A Study was conducted to describe the factors associated with epiretinal membrane (ERM) formation in eyes treated with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

The 2239 cases treated with PPV for RRD repair were registered. Procedures: Associations of 13 baseline characteristics and 8 surgical procedures with ERM formation were evaluated using univariate analysis.

--ERM had developed in 104 cases by six months. It was found that a drainage retinotomy was significantly associated with ERM after multiple testing correction.

--In the propensity score-matched analysis (N=492 in each group), a significant difference in the incidence of ERM after six months of vitrectomy was confirmed.

Eyes treated with PPV and drainage retinotomy, in particular, are more prone to develop ERM postoperatively.
